MULTI-SKILLED MAINTENANCE MANAGER

Location: Huddersfield, West Yorkshire
Salary: £49,000 – £52,000 per annum (depending on experience)

10 Recruitment are working with an established manufacturing business in Huddersfield who are looking to appoint an experienced Multi-Skilled Maintenance Manager to oversee and develop their engineering and maintenance function.

This is a fantastic opportunity for somebody who combines strong technical engineering knowledge with the ability to lead a team, improve maintenance processes and ensure production machinery operates reliably.

We're particularly interested in speaking with Maintenance Managers who have progressed from a hands-on engineering background and are still comfortable getting involved technically when required.

This isn't a position for somebody who wants to sit behind a desk all day. We're looking for somebody who enjoys being involved with the machinery, supporting engineers and taking ownership of the maintenance function.

THE ROLE

  • Oversee the day-to-day maintenance function across a busy manufacturing facility.

  • Lead, support and develop the engineering and maintenance team.

  • Plan, implement and continuously improve preventative maintenance schedules.

  • Ensure machinery breakdowns are responded to efficiently, minimising disruption to production.

  • Provide technical support across both mechanical and electrical maintenance activities.

  • Identify recurring machinery issues and implement long-term solutions.

  • Drive improvements in plant reliability, machinery performance and maintenance efficiency.

  • Coordinate engineering projects, machinery installations and equipment upgrades.

  • Manage external contractors and engineering suppliers where required.

  • Oversee spare parts, maintenance resources and engineering expenditure.

  • Work closely with production management to plan maintenance around operational requirements.

  • Ensure engineering activities comply with relevant health and safety procedures.

  • Maintain a practical, hands-on approach and support the team with more complex engineering issues.

  • Help develop a proactive maintenance culture, moving away from reactive breakdowns wherever possible.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

  • Previous experience as a Maintenance Manager, Engineering Manager, Maintenance Supervisor or Senior Maintenance Engineer.

  • A strong multi-skilled engineering background, with mechanical and electrical maintenance knowledge.

  • Experience managing maintenance activities within a manufacturing or industrial environment.

  • A solid understanding of PPM systems, breakdown management and continuous improvement.

  • Experience supporting, supervising or developing engineering teams.

  • Strong fault-finding and problem-solving capabilities.

  • Experience working with industrial production machinery, motors, drives, gearboxes, hydraulics and pneumatics.

  • The ability to balance planned maintenance, reactive breakdowns and longer-term improvement projects.

  • A practical, approachable leadership style with a willingness to remain involved on the shop floor.

  • Somebody who can take ownership, identify areas for improvement and implement positive changes.

Experience within textiles, weaving, continuous production or machinery-intensive manufacturing would be highly advantageous. However, we would also welcome applications from experienced engineering professionals across other manufacturing sectors.

We would also be interested in speaking with strong Maintenance Supervisors or Lead Engineers who feel ready to take the next step into a management position.
